Birthday present

Someone dear to me just had his birthday, and in that event I’ve been looking for a birthday present for him. He enjoys reading books, and I thought about getting him a book of history. But history is vast. Which history should I choose from, and how would I know he hasn’t read that particular book? I know I won’t buy him any books upon the first or second world war, as neither of us are very interested in that.

So in the end I settled ( or I have so far at least ) on buying him a sketch book and some simple ink pens so he can sketch or dribble in if he wishes. I also decided then to draw something to him on the first page. Which also rises the question: What?
I came to the conclusion it should be something mythical, but then once again, it doesn’t particularly feel as if I’ve narrowed it down, but more gone into an idea that’s broader than I imagined it to be in the first place.

Anyone got a suggestion?
